An ancient tradition

The calacala is an ancient form of barter that took place in Procida and in all the Campi Flegrei where the small fishermen returning from the fishing trip approached the coast and called the local farmers with the voice calacala urging them to lower the basket with products of the garden and exchanging them with part of the fish. In the 1900s this form of primordial trade without the intermediation of money took place in Procida by land with the fishermen who went around the town and offered the calacala to the farmers.
